Division of Neurogenetics

Neurogenetic disorders—chronic conditions of the nervous system attributable to a specific alteration in the genome—are being diagnosed in growing numbers among both children and adults as a result of rapidly advancing genetic technologies and knowledge. NYU Langone Health’s Division of Neurogenetics provides detailed evaluations and comprehensive management of suspected or confirmed neurogenetic disorders using principles of shared decision-making with patients and their families.

Our highly skilled team works to address each person’s needs, which often includes biochemical and molecular genetic testing and genetic counseling. We provide neurogenetic evaluations across a broad range of conditions, including neurodevelopmental disabilities like autism spectrum disorder, medication-resistant epilepsies, neuromuscular disorders, dementias, brain malformations, white matter disorders, and movement disorders. Our division has specific expertise in lysosomal storage disorders, of which many are associated with neurological manifestations. We provide diagnostics, surveillance and treatment for Gaucher disease, Fabry disease, Pompe disease, Batten disease, and the mucopolysaccharidoses, as well as other lysosomal storage disorders. NYU Langone’s Lysosomal Storage Disorders Program has been providing precision therapies for this population since the early 1990s.

Because these conditions often impact more than just the nervous system, our team collaborates with experts from subspecialties across NYU Langone for wrap-around, high-quality care.
